Trusted Quality
Built to Last

A Legacy of Quality, Partnership, and Unwavering Commitment to our Clients, spanning three generations in Pretoria.

The Foundations (1948 – 1974)

In 1948, Jan Withaar arrived in Pretoria from Meppel in the Netherlands with nothing but his trade tools and a deep belief in honest, meticulous workmanship. His reputation grew quickly among architects and engineers who valued his precision and respect for design intent. By 1956, his craftsmanship earned him membership in the Master Builders’ Association — an early mark of excellence that remains part of our DNA today.

From family homes to churches, warehouses, and office buildings, every project carried Jan’s signature: attention to detail, respect for the architect’s vision, and craftsmanship that stood the test of time. Even in his final project — his daughter’s home, completed by his son Bart after his passing in 1974 — the guiding principle remained unchanged: build with integrity, no shortcuts, ever.

Building a Reputation (1975 – 2000)

In 1975, Bart Withaar transformed his father’s legacy into a modern, registered enterprise — B.A. Withaar Builders. Armed with a Carpentry Trade Test from Olifantsfontein and a Diploma in Building Management from Technikon Pretoria, Bart brought together traditional skill and professional rigour.

Clients valued not only the beauty of his workmanship but also the calm, structured way he ran a site. His approach made construction a collaborative, stress-free process — a rarity then and now. Through the following decades, B.A. Withaar Builders became known for creating elegant homes, reliable commercial spaces, and seamless renovations across Pretoria. Each project was guided by the same ethos: deliver peace of mind through professionalism, communication, and pride in every finish.

Expanding Horizons (2001 – 2010)

As Pretoria grew, so did B.A. Withaar Builders’ capabilities. The company diversified into multi-unit residential, commercial, and light industrial projects, refining its systems for cost control, scheduling, and quality management.

Developers found in us not just a contractor, but a strategic partner — one who understood that time, precision, and profitability go hand in hand. Our ability to manage complex logistics and deliver value-driven, on-time construction established B.A. Withaar as the go-to builder for those balancing design ambition with business outcomes.

The foundation of trust built over decades became a platform for collaboration with developers and investors who demanded excellence at scale.

The Modern Era (2011 – Today)

In 2011, the third generation joined the helm as Gerrit Withaar became Contracts Manager — bringing with him experience from national firms like Stefanutti Stocks, Concor, and Murray & Roberts, and a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management from the University of Pretoria.

Under Gerrit’s leadership, the company has evolved into a technically adept, future-ready construction partner — embracing modern methods, sustainability, and advanced project management systems. Today, B.A. Withaar Builders delivers durable, high-performance industrial, commercial, and residential projects across Gauteng and beyond.
